Roger J. Warniers, 96, passed away on Friday morning, February 14, 2020 at Darden Homes in South Bend, IN. He was born on October 1, 1923 in Mishawaka, IN, to Rene and Sidonie (DeBlock) Warniers, both of whom preceded him in death. On September 13, 1947 in St. Casimir Catholic Church in South Bend, Roger married the former Adeline Waligorski, who preceded him in death on October 6, 2016. Roger is survived by daughter, Kathi (Nicholas) Borsodi of Gilbert, AZ; son, Jim (Peggy) Warniers of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Nicholas (Maureen) Borsodi of Redondo Beach, CA, and Kristin (Brian) Laubenthal of Gilbert, AZ; and three great-grandchildren, Codee Kimbel of Lakeville, IN, and Braydon and Cruze Laubenthal of Gilbert, AZ. In addition to his wife, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Maurice Warniers. Roger graduated from Mishawaka High School. He was employed as a truck mechanic for a commercial bakery. Previously, he worked at Singer Corporation and Bendix Corporation. In his younger years, he was an altar boy for St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka, IN. Roger was a member of the 364 Teamster Union. He met the love of his life through the Mishawaka Flying Club and learned how to fly in a J-3 Piper Cub. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00am-12:00pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. A rosary service will be held at 11:40am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Committal service and entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery in South Bend. Contributions in memory of Roger may be donated to Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
