NORTH LIBERTY - Eugene Nowicki, 85, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 in Hamilton Grove Nursing Facility. Gene was born December 22, 1931 in North Liberty to the late George and Mamie (Zarobinski) Nowicki. Gene was also preceded in death by a son, Jim Sikorski; and brother, Daniel Nowicki. On July 8, 1964, in St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, Gene married his loving wife, Marcella (Lisiecki) Nowicki; she survives along with children, Ken Sikorski of South Bend, Fred Sikorski of New Carlisle and Carol (Joe) Laureys of New Carlisle; sister, Loretta (Butch) Micek of Pensacola, FL, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gene honorably served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a farmer, and drove a school bus part time for New Carlisle School Corporation. Gene was a member of the Crumstown Conservation Club, VFW in North Liberty and Farm Bureau. He was also a parishioner of St. Mary's Polish National Church (PNCC). Gene enjoyed fishing, going to the casinos, and playing cards. Gene's family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Hamilton Grove Nursing Facility and the Center for Hospice for all their support and care as well as to Fr. Charles of St. Mary's for his spiritual guidance during this difficult time. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. is assisting the family.
