NILES - Henry R. Molica, age 90 years, of Eagle Street, Niles, Michigan, died peacefully on September 30, 2011. Henry was born on January 8, 1921, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Rosario and Nancy (Merlo) Molica, and graduated from Niles High School in 1939. He went on to proudly serve his country as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during WW II, and was a decorated hero, recently receiving the Air Medal, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He retired after 36 years with the National Standard Company in Niles. Henry is survived by his wife of 70 years, Emily (Smith) Molica; his children, Dennis Molica of Galesburg, MI, Marcia (Joseph) Horton-Fink of Lansing, MI, and Phyllis Brenner of Woodstock, Ontario, Canada; 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Anthony (Betty), Frank (Shirley), Benny, Alfred (Jacqueline) Molica; sisters, Fanny (Harold) Probst and Mary Curtis; as well as many nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Phillip & Robert, sisters, Nicolette McElroy & Jennie Imus, his daughter-in-law, Cora Molica, and granddaughter, Melanie Molica. Mr. Molica was an affectionate and loyal husband, loving father and doting grandfather. He was an excellent athlete, an enthusiastic fisherman, and an avid hunter. He also enjoyed bowling and the game of golf. He was a hard worker who was always there for friends, family, and anyone who needed a hand. His family was the most important and precious part of his life. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Niles, with The Rev. Thomas King, C.S.C., officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles, where The Buchanan American Legion Post #51, will present Full Military Honors. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home, and concluding with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in honor of Henry R. Molica may be made to Alzheimer's Research. Arrangements were made by the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
