SOUTH BEND - LaMar R. Freel, 85, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Thursday, September 15, 2011, in Hospice House. LaMar was born on May 11, 1926 in South Bend to Matthew and Glenda (Gorney) Freel, and was a lifelong resident. He retired from Fuller-O'Brien Paints in 1988, where he was employed as a printer for 45 years. On November 29, 1952, in St. Adalbert Church, he married Sally S. Buszkiewicz, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Diane (Paul) Parlin and Joanne (Randy) Szymanowski both of South Bend, IN; two sons, Stephen (Shannon) Freel of Tega, SC and Matthew Freel of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren, Mark Hazzard and Carly Szymanowski; two great-granchildren, Jeremiah and Charles Hazzard; and one sister-in-law, Arlene Freel of Granger, IN. LaMar was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Sharon Freel, his sister, Evelyn Austin, his brother, Bill Freel, and his brother-in-law, John Austin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2011 in St. John the Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. LaMar was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish. He was a Korean War Veteran and a member of the V.F.W. He was a lifelong Cubs and Notre Dame sports fan and enjoyed country music. LaMar loved his family and friends.
