SOUTH BEND - Sally S. Freel, 91, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, in her home. Sally was born on June 5, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Stephen and Mary Ann (Zielinski) Buszkiewicz. On November 29, 1952, she married Lamar R. Freel, who preceded her in death on September 15, 2011. Sally is survived by two daughters, Diane (Paul) Parlin and Joanne (Randy) Szymanowski, both of South Bend; two sons, Stephen (Shannon) Freel of Tega Cay, South Carolina, and Matthew (Mary) Freel of South Bend; two grandchildren, Mark Hazzard and Carly Symanowski, both of South Bend; and three great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, Sally was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabelle Tatay and Anne Mnichowski; and six brothers, Joe, Walter, Casimir, Phil, Ted and Ervin Buszkiewicz. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Sally retired from Indiana University South Bend after 16 years. She loved to help people and was always willing to give others a ride whenever they needed it. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for 55 years and a member St. Casimir's Polish Choir. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
