SOUTH BEND - Richard Szymkowiak, 63, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2015, in his home. Richard was born on October 11, 1951, to Casimere and Helen (Bensley) Szymkowiak. On May 5th, 1984, Richard married Debra (Raszkowski) Szymkow-iak, who survives. Along with his wife of 31 years, Richard is survived by his son, Stanley (Kelly) Szymkowiak; his daughters, Jessica (Pedro) Almazon, Caitlin Szymkowiak, Jennifer Szymkowiak; and two grandchildren, Bridgette and Lily. He was predeceased by both his parents. He was always recognized as a hardworking man. He worked for the City of South Bend as a driver for 43 years, Sears of Mishawaka in inventory returns and customer service for 18 years, as well as his own lawn service with his children for at least 10 years. He was a dedicated, loyal and generous man. His passions included reading, cooking and talking. He was extremely outgoing. With his one of a kind personality, he was sure to leave an impression on everyone he ever met. Always a joker and spinning tall tales is how we will remember him. In keeping with Richard's wishes, there will be a service on Saturday, August 15, at Palmer Funeral Home, Guisinger Chapel, from 2-4 pm.
