Lottie A. Golba
June 16, 1922 - Nov. 21, 2015
SOUTH BEND - Lottie Antoinette (Wadzinski) Golba, 93, a lifelong resident of South Bend, went home to the Lord on November 21st, 2015. Born June 16th, 1922, Lottie was the daughter of the late Henry and Jozefa (Wieczorek) Wadzinski. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard "Leo" Vincent Golba, a WWII veteran and former Saint Joe County police officer. Lottie attended Saint Hedwig grade school and was a graduate of South Bend Catholic High School. She married Leo at Saint Hedwig Parish on November 20, 1943. Upon her husband's return from service in the war, the couple moved to Edison Park and became founding parishioners of Saint Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Lottie worked as a parish sacristan and was a devout Catholic throughout her life. While many of her years were spent at home raising her 4 children, Lottie also worked at the former Goldblatt's and Hudson's department stores. The daughter of Polish immigrants, Lottie was both genuine and humble and loved by neighbors for her selfless nature. A meticulous seamstress and cook, she was often found sewing or in her kitchen perfecting her vast culinary skills. Lottie was well known for her witty sense of humor, ethnic Polish cuisine, and being a devoted mother and wife. She was also quite the conversationalist and had a welcoming smile; to be with her was to feel at home. Although Lottie's memory faded in the final months, her infectious personality and humor remained. While her epitaph is now complete, her legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those who knew her. She is etched into each of our souls now and always. Those left to cherish her memory include her 4 children, Tom (Barb) Golba, Sue (Jim) Reeves, Connie (Randy) Smith, and Judy (Ed) Zehner. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Anthony de Padua Catholic Church at 11 am on Friday, November 27, 2015 with a viewing beginning one hour prior to Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend. Lottie's family would like to extend their thanks to the caring staffs of Signature Health Care and The Center for Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Lottie may be made to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 2114 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46617. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
