SOUTH BEND - Thaddeus J. “Ted” Strychalski, 98, of South Bend, passed away on September 26, 2016 at Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend. He was born on January 16, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Julian J. and Theresa (Grzegorek) Strychalski. On September 27, 1947 he married Patricia “Pat” Sroda. He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Moore of South Bend, his son, Kenneth (Karen) Strychalski of Cassopolis, MI, a sister, Hildegarde Turner of Fort Lauderdale, FL and a brother, Raymond (Mary) Strychalski of Atlanta, GA. Ted was preceded in death by five sisters, Irene Opaczewski, Loretta Miller, Angie Piechocki, Jean Glon and Rosemary Witucki; three brothers, Bernard V., Leonard and Stanley Strychalski; and by a sister-in-law, Phyllis Strychalski. Mr. Strychalski worked on the assembly line at Studebaker from 1941-1957. He then went on to be an engineer at Central High School through the South Bend School Corporation from 1957-1983 and was a painter. He also served three terms as President of Local Union #686, Bus Drivers and Custodial Staff of the South Bend Community School Corporation. Ted was a United States Airforce Veteran of WWII, serving from 1942-1945. He was in the 3rd Air Force, where he was an armament and installed 50 caliber machine guns on airplanes. Ted was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He was a woodworker, avid gardener and a fan of the Chicago White Sox, Notre Dame, Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend.
