SOUTH BEND - Margaret F. Szajko, 87, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, in Hospice House, South Bend. She was born on May 26, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Hattie (Walkowiak) Orzechowski, and was a lifelong area resident. On June 26, 1943, as Margaret Orzechowski, she married Marion Szajko, who survives. Along with her loving husband, she is survived by her three daughters, Patricia (Anthony) Stough of Dunedin, FL, Anne Szajko of Huntersville, NC, and June (Laury) Getford of Sanibel Island, FL; her five sons, Ray and Bill (Kathleen) of South Bend, Tom (Cathy) of Mishawaka, Paul (Vicky) of Niles and Dan of Huntersville, NC; 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Lydia Szajko of Arden, NC. She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Szajko. Mrs. Szajko was a parishioner of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, a member of Golden Cluster, Old English Sheepdog Club (Bobtail Followers), and was an elections inspector. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 22, in the Kaniewski Funeral Homes, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, in St. Anthony de Padua Church, South Bend, with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
