Louis Joseph Nyers, 77, of South Bend, IN passed away Sunday morning, June 13, 2010 in the Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka, IN. He was born October 21, 1932 in South Bend, IN to Julius and Anna (Orban) Nyers. On May 11, 1963, in South Bend, IN, he married Theresa M. (Osborn) Nyers, who survives. Mr. Nyers is also survived by daughter, Elizabeth (James) Gordon of Panama City, FL; son Christopher L. Nyers of Cary, NC and a dear friend and care giver, Dee Mathis. Two brothers, Gene and Alex Nyers preceded him in death. Mr. Nyers was a lifelong area resident. He retired as traffic manager for United Conveyor Corp. He also worked for Bob Miller’s Appliance Sales and Service. Mr. Nyers was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, St. Jude Golf League and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and NASCAR.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. Contributions in memory of Louis Joseph Nyers may be offered to Girls and Boys Town of America, The Village of Boys Town, Boystown, Nebraska 68010.
