SOUTH BEND - Harriet Rita Luczkowski, 85, formerly of N. Iowa Street in South Bend, passed away at 7:35 p.m., Wednesday January 4, 2017 in Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth, Indiana. She was born on January 11, 1931 in South Bend to Robert and Clara (Plencner) Switalski, and was a lifelong resident. Harriet retired from Bank of America, formerly Standard Federal Bank in South Bend. On September 5, 1953 in St. Stanislaus Church, she married Norbert J. Luczkowski who preceded her in death on December 29, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Randy Rogers; her sister, Joan and her husband Carl Zwierzynski; her brother Edward Switalski; and sister-in-law Rita Luczkowski. Harriet is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen (James) Laskowski of Acworth, Georgia, Jeanette (Chris) Sayer of Culver, Indiana and Margaret “Margie” Rogers of South Bend, Indiana; her three sons, Thomas (Carolyn) Luczkowski of Eagan, Minnesota, Michael (Elizabeth) Luczkowski of Temperance, Michigan and John (Jill) Luczkowski of Westfield, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren, Kelley (Allan) Edwards, Katie Laskowski, Marissa Luczkowski, Jeffrey (Kristen) Sayer, Jessica Sayer, Jennifer Sayer, Rachel (Daniel) Mirkin, Tyler Rogers, Zachary Luczkowski, Colin Luczkowski, Tanner Luczkowski, Chloe Luczkowski, Meghan Luczkowski, and Emma Luczkowski; two great-grandchildren Madeline and Spencer Edwards, and twin baby girls due March 2017 Eleanora and Ryan Mirkin; her brother, Richard (Lynne) Switalski of Granger, Indiana; and her brother-in-law, Richard Luczkowski of South Bend, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2017 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. Harriet was a 1950 graduate of South Bend Catholic High School. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish. She was also a member of a Canasta Club of 10 high school girlfriends and enjoyed playing BINGO. The family wishes to thank the staff at Pilgrim Manor for their loving care of Harriet.
