Maranette “Marty” J. Schmunck, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. She was born on October 13, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan, to Paul W. and Ruby M. Custenborder, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 3, 1971 in South Bend, Marty married Edward Schmunck. In addition to her loving husband of 47 years, Marty is survived by daughter, Rebecca Heffner of Leesburg, FL; son, George “Buddy” Six of Edwardsburg, MI; step-son, Thomas Goodsell of Mishawaka, IN; and five generations of descendants. Marty was preceded in death by her parents as well as her son, Kurt Six. A resident of South Bend since the 1960s, Marty was employed as a nursing assistant for more than 35 years at Michiana Osteopathic Hospital. She loved working at the hospital, as she enjoyed helping people. She also worked at Meijer on Portage Road for twelve years. Marty enjoyed playing darts, and she loved to collect owls. In keeping with the wishes of Marty, no services will be held. Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family.
