[N5544] Bert Chudzicki
Sept. 8, 1938 - Jan. 24, 2016
SOUTH BEND - Former South Bend resident, Bert Chudzicki, Jr., 77, of Rio Rancho, NM, died Sunday, January 24, 2016, in the Intensive Care Unit at Lovelace Westside Hospital due to complications from Bilateral Pneumonia, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Bert was born Sept. 8, 1938, in South Bend, to the late Veronica (Klemczewski) and Bert Chudzicki, Sr., and had lived in South Bend until moving to Rio Rancho in 2004. On July 9, 1960, in South Bend, he married Sharon Kaye Hauck, who preceded him in death in 2013. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert Chudzicki, James Chudzicki and Larry Chudzicki. Surviving are his daughter, Debbie Chudzicki of Rio Rancho; brothers, Dennis, Joseph, and Randy; and sister, Sharon. Bert was a member of the Armed Forces in the early 1960s and spent time stationed in Paris, France. He and his family spent nearly the entire 70s at Northside Little League in Mishawaka. Later Bert went back to college at IUSB and graduated with a Bachelor's of General Studies in 1980. Bert was employed by the former Miles Laboratories (Bayer Corp). After he retired and moved to New Mexico, Bert took a part-time job at Gate-It Access Systems and worked there for 6 years as a driver and will be missed by many of his co-workers. After Bert's wife's passing he was fortunate to find a loving companion, Carole Johnson of Rio Rancho, with whom he shared many wonderful times and even more laughter and love. He LOVED watching Notre Dame football and basketball. He also loved the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, even though they didn't give him much to love. Even after moving to New Mexico in 2004, he had several opportunities to travel and see Notre Dame play football, as well as seeing the Cubs at spring training. He and his wife and daughter built a home in New Mexico where he loved the view of four mountain ranges and six cities. Bert loved to golf and frequent the many casinos in New Mexico, and New Mexico gave him a place to do that nearly year around. He will be missed by many, but none more than his two GrandFURkids, Keeto and Maggie, A Memorial Celebration of Bert's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on that date.
