================

On June 11, 1902, Rev. M. Biro, C.S.C., married Stephen Toth, son of Joseph Toth, and Helen Szalai, daughter of Stephen & Catherine Koleszar Szalai, at St Stephen's Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana. (image of original record, familysearch.org, and Chris Kovach, transcriber, "Hungarian Collection", Saint Joseph County INGenWeb)

According to the 1910-1930 census records of South Bend, and Chris Kovach's transcribed records of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the children of Stephen and Helen, aka Ilona, Toth included (in birth order): Stephen who died young, John, Joseph J., Stephen, Vera, and Louis who died young.

Helen's husband, Stephen Toth, died in 1936. She died in 1960. Her date and place of death are given in her Indiana death certificate for which her son, John Toth, was the informant. He reported that she was a widow. It was his understanding that she had been born May 15, 1879* in Hungary. *Her gravestone was inscribed with a birth year of 1878. Her age in her 1910-1940 census records indicates that she was born 1877-1879.

Helen may be Ilona Szalai, daughter of Istvan & Katalin (Kolszar) Szalai, who was baptised Mar. 15, 1878 in Lósz, Sopron, Hungary. (Transcription of "Hungary, Catholic Church Records" on familysearch.org)
