SOUTH BEND - Former South Bend resident, Virgil Frank "Butch" Arndt Jr., 67, of St. Cloud, FL, died at 6:40 a.m. Friday, March 29th, in Osceola Regional Hospital following a short illness. Butch was born April 2, 1945, in South Bend, to Mary G. (Dietl) and Virgil F. Arndt, and was a lifetime area resident until moving to Florida several years ago. He is survived by his parents; brothers, Edward Arndt (Ruth Gaby) of South Bend, Richard Arndt (Sandy) of Cassopolis, MI, and Mark Arndt (Joyce) of St. Cloud; nieces, Ashleigh Karasawa, Jenny Atwood and Angela Stephenson; and two great-nieces and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Helen. Butch was a dishwasher for a number of years at Notre Dame, and had also been employed at Kroger and Logan Industries. He was a member of the Clay Democratic Club and especially enjoyed going there to enjoy many nights of music and dancing. He was also very active at Logan Center and participated in the Special Olympics. He will always be remembered as a very good-natured, happy, smiling person, and was a special brother and son to his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Committal services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4th, and on Friday one hour prior to services.
