Frans Oscar Andersson (Frank Oscar Bloomquist) was born in Sweden on 23 Dec 1876, the son of Anna Christina Johannesdotter (Anna Christina Bloomquist) and Anders Jonsson (Andrew Bloomquist). On 1 Nov 1882 the family emigrated from Sweden and immigrated to America via Ellis Island, taking the family name Bloomquist. After immigration he was known as Frank Oscar Bloomquist, sometimes using just the name Frank or just the name Oscar. His older brother Karl Johan Andersson, born 16 Dec 1874, after immigration was known as Charles John Bloomquist. His younger brother Johan Leander Andersson, born 19 Nov 1879, was known after immigration as Leander John Bloomquist. In America Frank Oscar's parents were known as Andrew Bloomquist and Anna Christina Bloomquist. The family bought land and lived at Birch Lake, a Swedish settlement in northern Wisconsin's Bayfield County south of Ashland (Ashland Co.) They continued speaking Swedish as a family, although the three brothers also spoke native-level English. Frank Oscar attended Northland College in Ashland and was in the first graduation class of that educational institution. His occupation was given at various times as teacher, stenographer, bookkeeper, and insurance agent. Frank Oscar Bloomquist married Anna Karin Gunilla Peterson, daughter of Carl August Peterson and Louisa Charlotta Carlson, on 7 Dec 1900 in Ashland. His brother Leander Bloomquist and the bride's sister Bettie C. Peterson were witnesses, and the ceremony was performed by J.D. Nelsenius, Swedish Lutheran pastor, Ashland, WI.Frank Oscar and Anna lived in Ashland, where they brought 13 children to the world. All 13 of the children grew up to be adults, which was not something that could be assumed in those years of sometimes fatal childhood diseases. Frank Oscar's wife and all the children were tall, and all of the sons were taller than Frank Oscar's 5'9" frame. At various times Frank Oscar's widowed mother Anna Christina Bloomquist lived with the family in Ashland, and at another time his widowed mother-in-law Louisa Peterson. Frank Oscar's wife Anna died on 1 May 1945 when visiting a daughter in Chicago, IL. She was only 66 years old. After her death Frank Oscar lived with his children's families for six months at a time, rotating among the families. Frank Oscar died on 7 Jan 1959 in Ashland, WI at age 82. He was buried next to his wife on 10 Jan 1959 in Ashland, at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
