South Bend-Melodie “Meg” “Cookie” Holowko, 72, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Memorial Hospital. Melodie was born on November 14, 1947 in South Bend to LaMar and Eudeen “Dee” Wellington) Phend. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Patric Phend.
On August 15, 1998 she married, Sergei Holowko; he preceded her in death on February 2, 2010. Surviving are her children, Robert “Bob” Tirotta of Elkhart, Tonya Letherman of South Bend, Theresa Tirotta of South Bend, Greg Reese of South Bend and Tammy (Tim) Ambs of Niles, MI; grandchildren, Heather (Kevin) Cooper, Cody (Alexis) Letherman, Vincent Tirotta, Gregory (Ashley) Reese Jr, Cameron (Chy) McCray, Mason (Katie) McCray and Gloree Reese; great-grandchildren, Riley, Reagan, Reese, Hudson and Lorelei; sister, Sunny Porter and brother, Eric (Bonnie) Phend both of Morrison, IL, and many nieces and nephews. Melodie graduated from Penn High School in 1966. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was very active in Church Choirs over the years. Melodie loved doing crafts Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. with funeral services at 3 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Due to current public health and safety standards for COVID-19 social distancing will be enforced and masks required.
