Nerva Jean Whitaker
December 15, 1930 - September 4, 2021
Nerva Jean Gyori, 90, of Elkhart, IN passed away on September 4, 2021, at Caring Junction Assisted Living. Jean was born on December 15, 1930, in Salyersville, KY to the late Linville and Amy Whitaker. On July 15, 1950, Jean married George Gyori, who survives. In addition to her loving husband of 71 years, Jean is survived by her son, Kris (Kari) Gyori of Tennessee; daughters, Pam (Steve) Klebosits of Georgia and Jody (Bob) Divjak of Indiana; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Sherry Rockhill. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, Linville and Amy; brother, Morris Whitaker; and sisters, Aileen Davison, Maxine Szucs, and Christine Raker-Nowaczewski. Jean loved spending time with her family and her most precious memories were made with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was blessed to have spent her retirement years at Diamond Lake and winters in Sarasota, FL. She enjoyed her last years on Simonton Lake. She loved spending time with her sisters at Christine's making unforgettable memories. Jean cherished having Jordan read the Bible to her and talking with Kris about her childhood memories in the hills of Kentucky. Steven was her only grandchild for 16 years and she was so proud of him. Jean had a full life and is now in the arms of angels. Her family was blessed to have her as a wife and mother who loved them dearly and always put them first. We are sad but grateful for all of the memories. At Jean's request, a private service and interment will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. Palmer Funeral Homes-Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jean may be given to Caring Junction, 1430 South Ironwood Dr., Mishawaka, IN 46544 or to Paws for Humanity at www.pawsforhumanity.org.
