Dorothy Gaski (nee Macedo), age 95, lifelong resident of Lake County, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Maryland. Dorothy was raised in Gary, attended Holy Angels Elementary School, and graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1934. She married Walter Harry Gaski, also a native of Gary, in 1939. Dorothy worked for the War Bond Office in Gary during WWII, and played a key role in the establishment of the first Girl Scout council in Gary/Lake County. She was active in the parent organization at St. Mary's School (Crown Point) during the years her three daughters attended there. Dorothy was employed for 26 years at the former Lake County Convalescent Home (on 93rd Ave opposite the Lake County Government Center). She was the office manager when it opened its doors in 1960 and retired from it as the administrator in 1986, when it was one of the largest nursing homes in the state. Dorothy is survived by two daughters: Julie of Crown Point and Dorothy Honora of Waldorf, Maryland, as well as by her son-in-law, Michael Zarnosky of Maryland and two grandsons: Eric currently working in Quatar and Christopher of LaPlata, Maryland, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends scattered across the country.A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. directly at the Chapel of St. Anthony's Nursing Home, 203 Franciscan Drive, Crown Point, to celebrate a life lived to the fullest with generosity of heart and a loving spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children-IU in Indianapolis (www.iuhealth.org/riley) or to the Alzheimer's Disease Research Fund at 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871
