SOUTH BEND - Edward H. Kurpiewski, 88, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 in the Sprenger Health Care Facility in Mishawaka. Ed was born February 15, 1928 in South Bend to the late Stanley and Mary (Lyczynski) Kurpiewski. Ed was also preceded in death by his sisters, Monica Szweda and Florence Roggeman. Survivors of Ed include a sister, Renata (Richard) Kazmierczak; lifetime sweetheart, Donna Ailer; and many nieces & nephews. Ed honorably served his country in the United States Marines. He retired in 1991 from the South Bend Fire Department with 39 years and 50 weeks of service. Ed was a member of the West Side Democratic Club, the West Side St. Joseph Club and the PNA Club. He was very proud to be Polish and reside on the west side of South Bend for the last 88 years; he always felt it was the best side of the city. Ed also enjoyed golfing and bowling. He loved to dance, especially Polka.Visitation for Ed will be 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Rosary to be prayed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
