[N31211] Joan E Farkas
June 13, 1931 - January 23, 2022

Joan E. Jordan, 90, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, January 23rd at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Joan was born on June 13, 1931, in South Bend to Charles E. and Barbara E. (Gyarmathy) Farkas. On August 16, 1952, in South Bend, she married the love of her life, Ernest E. Jordan. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2004. She retired after 30 years as a South Bend Police Crossing Guard. Mom thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her kids at Marshall, Lincoln and Stanley Clark schools. She would tell each one to have a great day at school and ask about their day on the way home. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5521, as a past president of the Elizabethan ladies. She was also a member of FOP Ladies Aux. Lodge 36, as well as a member of St. Matthew Cathedral. She enjoyed bingo, but her greatest joy came from being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. You could also find Mom spending her summers at Ireland Ridge Pool, and Southeast Little League. Another passion of hers was watching Notre Dame and the Cubbies play. Joan is survived by her loving children, Barbara J. Hale of South Bend, David Michael (Dan Lawrence) Jordan of South Bend, William P. (Rhoda) Jordan of Bremen, and Chris Jordan of South Bend. She was the proud grandmother of seven, Brad (Mary) Jordan, Shannon (Tim) Zeiger, Cal Jordan, Skylar Jordan, Nici (Phats) Xayamath, Ashley (Jeremy) Simpkins, and Cassie (Cory) Creighton, and the great grandmother of 15. She was also blessed with nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Anne Pearson and Viola Troutman, along with her brother Charles Farkas, Jr. Also preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Phillip Hale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 18th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthews Cathedral, with Fr. Terry Fisher officiating. The family will have visitation at 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. As per her wishes she will be cremated.Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Dr., South Bend, IN 46614. Hanley and Sons Funeral Home is assisting Joan's family with arrangements and extend their deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to all of her family and friends.
