Andrew Joseph Batiz, 82, of Gilpin Township, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. Born Feb. 12, 1929, in Banfield, he was the son of the late Emory and Mary (Senator) Batiz. Andrew retired in 1991 from Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Leechburg after 42 years of service. He was a veteran of the Army and Navy having served during the Korean War. A lifelong resident of the Leechburg area, his memberships included the Leechburg Elks and the American Legion and VFW, both in Vandergrift. He was a Boy Scout leader for 12 years, enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, gardening and especially spending time with his family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis, James, and John; and a sister, Mary. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elinor I. (Kuruc) Batiz; four sons, Andrew (JoAnn) Batiz, of Vandergrift, Gary (Joni) Batiz, of Vandergrift, Ronald (Julie) Batiz, of Gilpin Township, and Brian Batiz, of Fort Myers, Fla.; two daughters, Cynthia (Mike) Titus and Mary Sue Terrell, both of Naples, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and three sisters, Betty Wyrick, of Tennessee, Margie Chandler, of Coraopolis, and Joann (David) Pecze, of South Bend, Ind. The family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 300 Market St., Leechburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Tom Holmes officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be private.
