MISHAWAKA, IN - Phyllis Mae Jeanette Gartee, 79, residing in Mishawaka, IN passed away at 8:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2013 at her home. She was born on November 7, 1933 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Gladys Mae (Hughey) Sult and to the late Harold Orville Thornburg, and has been a lifelong resident of this area. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed being self-employed as a seamstress for over 20 years. On June 4, 1955 in South Bend, she was united in marriage to Loren Elgin Gartee, Sr., who preceded her in death on January 19, 1990. She is also preceded in death by her two brothers, James Sult and Winifred Thornburg. Phyllis Mae is survived by four children, Andrew (Marsha )Gartee of South Bend, Loren (Juliet) Gartee, Jr. of Mishawaka, Bambi-Lynn (Gregory) Nowak of Mishawaka, and David (Lisa) Gartee of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren, Andrea, Shea, Alexandra, Seth, Courtney, Naoina, David, and Anthony; three great-grandchildren, Lawson, Jackson, and Eleanor. Also surviving are three brothers, Robert Thornburg of Arizona, Harley “Babe” Sult of Bremen, Robert “Bobby” Sult of South Bend; and one sister, Norma Jean (Sult) Litteral of South Bend. Memorial services will be from 3:00-5:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Oak Creek Community Church, 833 Lincolnway E, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
