NORTH LIBERTY - Michael B. Kochanowski, 78, of North Liberty, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center - Mishawaka Campus. Mike was born August 28, 1942 in Elwood, to the late Stanley and Helen (Pedro) Kochanowski. He graduated from Greene Township High School in 1960, where he played basketball and baseball for Jim Reinbold. He then went on to play baseball for Mississippi College. He served in the United States Army from 1963 until he was honorably discharged in 1964. Mike was trained on Nike Hercules Missile Radar Repair while in the Army. On July 24, 1993 in Mishawaka, he married Nancy Bauters; and she survives. Mike was a letter carrier for the South Bend Post Office; but he retired as the Post Master in North Liberty. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Walkerton. He was an avid New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan; he enjoyed fishing and he was a huge card player. Mike also umpired church league softball. He also was a member of the American Legion, Crumstown Conservation Club, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Greene Township Lions Club. Surviving is his wife, Nancy Kochanowski of South Bend; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth (Karen) Kochanowski of Osceola, Kirk Kochanowski of South Bend; and one grand-daughter, Morgan. Also surviving are his two siblings, Veronica (George) Vargo of Granger, and Donald Kochanowski of South Bend. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Kochanowski.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00AM Thursday, December 10, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Church, 807 Tyler Street, Walkerton, Indiana 46574, with Fr. Don Davison officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM until time of mass at the church. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in North Liberty. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Patrick’s Church.
