SOUTH BEND - Heaven gained a special angel when Patricia Kathleen Spodnick, 69, of South Bend, IN passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN. She was born on June 15, 1946 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Lt. Colonel Francis Joseph and Jeniphor May (McMaster) Smyth and was raised in Fairborn, Ohio. Truly, the best Mommy & Nana ever, she is survived by her daughter, Jeniphor (Dave) Egan of South Bend, IN; son, Mark (Jennifer) Spodnick of North Liberty, IN; and three grandchildren, Bransen Rylee Bonnell, Brennen Daniel Egan and Caleb Joseph Spodnick. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and enjoyed attending her grandsons' sporting events. She will forever remain in their hearts and in everything that they do. Also surviving are a sister, Jeniphor (Les) Hruska of Huber Heights, OH; two brothers, Christopher (Mary) Smyth of Cincinnati, OH and Robert Smyth of Tucson, AZ; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law and their families from Connecticut; many nieces and nephews including a special niece and goddaughter, Jeniphor M. Compton and nephew, Jeremy G. Compton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Francis J. Smyth and Gregory M. Smyth. Pat resided in South Bend for over the last forty-three years. She served her country honorably in the United States Marines, where she met her husband, 1st Sgt. Robert Joseph Spodnick ("Sarge"), who preceded her in death on April 9, 2004. After retiring from Aramark Corporation several years ago, she very much enjoyed and was proud of her volunteer work at St. Margaret's House. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Contributions in memory of Pat may be offered to St. Margaret's House, 117 N.
