Michael J. Zarembka, 69, of Granger, IN, passed away at 9:58 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. He was born on August 20, 1952 to the late George Zarembka and Mildred (Hitney) Fiehl in LaPorte, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with his parents; he was preceded in death by a brother, A. George Szczodrowski; step father, Walter Fiehl; and a step sister, Judith Lynch. Mike graduated in 1970 from New Prairie High School in New Carlisle, IN, then received an Associate’s Degree from Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend, IN. On September 30, 1978, he married Brenda Loer in Akron, IN. Mike worked as an engineer at South Bend Lathe, Martin Machine, and then retired in 2007 from Honeywell International. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Brenda Zarembka of Granger, IN; his daughter, Jennifer (Grant) Anderson of Brownsburg, IN; his son, Marcus (Ashley) Zarembka of Granger, IN; two grandchildren, Ian and Lane Zarembka, both of Granger, IN; one sister, Lucile Morehouse of New Carlisle, IN; and one brother, Donald Szczodrowski of New Carlisle, IN. Mike loved fishing, bird watching, and going to garage sales, where he collected many treasures. He also enjoyed traveling the Midwest to visit as many zoos as possible. He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan and rarely missed an opportunity to watch the games with Brenda. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. The family will be wearing Notre Dame or Chicago Cubs attire in Mike's honor and invite you to join in if you wish.Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
