[N31790] Anne Marie Seip Bartholomy
September 20, 1940 - April 29, 2021

Anne Bartholomy, beloved wife of 59 years to Pat, devoted mother to five children, and loving grandmother to nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, passed away at the age of 80 after suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. Anne was the only child of Roy and Bessie (Hartnett) Seip and she grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana with her grandparents, aunts and uncles and many dear cousins close by. Her mother was a devout Catholic and raised Anne in the church while her father was a devout Lutheran. Anne attended St. Theresa grade school and Central Catholic High School, where she met the love of her life at the age of 14 years. Anne attended St. Francis University and graduated from Ball State with a degree in Home Economics and a minor in Math. She married Pat at the age of 21. The young couple had their first baby before their first wedding anniversary and decided to move to Southern California in 1963. They intended to move to California for a year to spend time with friends, but they acclimated so well there and made so many friends that they spent 37 years and raised their family there. Together Anne and Pat lived in Anaheim, Orange, Westminster, Long Beach and Seal Beach. Anne was a teacher in California, teaching middle school math. She and Pat had five children over 14 years and during that time Anne worked as a teacher off and on. Later in life she also worked at Pacific Bell and as an office manager for a small research firm. After their kids were grown, Anne and Pat moved to Chicago for 5 years and during that time Anne worked in her dream job as a seasonal retail worker at her favorite store, Marshall Fields on State Street. After living in Chicago, Anne and Pat moved to Gulfport, Mississippi and lived there for 17 years. While there, Anne worked as a volunteer in their parish office. Anne and Pat were early members of St. Barbara’s Church in Santa Ana, California, where their children received their sacraments and they made many dear, lifelong friends. Later, they were also active members at St. Barnabas Church in Long Beach, St. Anne’s Church in Seal Beach and St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Long Beach, Mississippi. Anne raised her family strongly in the faith and made sure that they attended Mass together as a family every single Sunday, even when traveling. Her kids remember driving over an hour to get to the closest church for Mass on a few Sundays when they were camping. Anne and Pat loved life and loved to camp, water ski and travel. When their family was young they traveled all over the United States in their motorhome, often pulling a ski boat behind it, with friends or to visit friends. They also visited Europe several times, and went on pilgrimages to Rome and Lourdes in 1975 with Marriage Encounter, and in the Holy Year of 1980 to Rome and Oberammergau, Germany with a group from St. Barbara’s. They enjoyed trips to Ireland with their dear friend Father Collins, Scotland with Pat’s parents and Germany with Anne’s parents. They also visited their daughters while studying abroad in France and London, taking them on trips to Spain and Portugal. As their kids grew older, their favorite vacation spot was Lake Havasu, where the family could gather for water-skiing and Trivial Pursuit with best friends. While Anne had an adventurous and fun life, she loved nothing more than to be at home with her family. She cooked dinner every night for her children when they were growing up and many a night more recently gathered her family around her dining room table. Anne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2013 and spent the past several years dealing gracefully with the horrible effects of the disease. She spent the last year of her life being dearly cared for at Saint Joseph Village in Chicago and passed away peacefully in the loving company of her husband and children. Anne will be severely missed and is survived by her beloved husband Pat, her children Lisa (Greg) Hendey, Erin (David Birks) Bartholomy, Patrick (Benet Simonds) Bartholomy, Brady (Matt) Powers and Michael (Meg) Bartholomy, her dear grandchildren Eric (Lea) Hendey, Adam (Franziska Monahan) Hendey, Patrick Powers, Evan Birks, Patrick Bartholomy III, Tyler Birks, Colin Powers, Elsa Bartholomy and Desmond Bartholomy, and a great-granddaughter Hendey expected to be born this summer. Funeral mass will take place at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1429 W. Wellington Ave. in Chicago, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 following a family gathering in the chapel at 9:30 a.m.
