Werner Ernst O'Connell-Hartmann, 45, of South Bend, IN, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday March 2, 2022. He was born in York, PA to Karen (Richert) Keith and the late Werner Ernst Hartmann, Sr. from Frankfurt, Germany. Werner is survived by his mother, Karen Keith and step-father, Michael Keith, of South Bend, IN; and by his aunt, Diana (William) Sedlacek of South Bend, IN; four uncles, Gary (Nancy) Richert of Morganton, GA; Galen (Louise) Richert of North Liberty, IN; Wayne Richert of Vandalia, MI; and Jimmy Bunch of North Carolina. Werner is also survived by 13 cousins. Werner was preceded in death by his grandmother, Virginia Richert; grandfather, Gary D. Richert; three aunts, Wendy (Richert) Davies; Dawn (Richert) Bunch; Patricia “Trish” Richert; and two uncles, David Davies and David Duane Richert. Werner had a degree in IT and worked for years as a property manager and handyman for his mother and step father’s rental properties. Werner enjoyed camping and hiking. He cherished his family and friends and looked forward to the many gatherings with them. He hoped for one day to have a family of his own. Werner loved his English Bulldog “Bugsy” and considered him his family. Werner was a very giving and generous person and was always there to help a friend or stranger in need. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday March 7, 2022 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where friends may visit for 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will conclude in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research or the Salvation Army.
