Veleda Mae Moberg, age 90, of South Bend passed away Monday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Veleda graduated from the American Business College in South Bend and worked for many years as an Executive Secretary for the Bendix Corporation. She had great shorthand. She was born on April 17, 1932 in North Liberty to the late Garland and Vera (Heim) Newland and has lived in this area all of her life. On March 20, 1954 in North Liberty, she married Harold E. “Gene” Moberg who preceded her in death on February 13, 2017. Survivors include her niece, Brenda Newland of Mishawaka, two nephews, Joshua Coffman of Glendale, CA and Steve Newland of Walkerton, two great nieces, Abigail Okros and Cecilia Smith and a great nephew, Jacob Pauwels. Also surviving is a good family friend, Burt Miller and also Rose Gachanja, Veleda’s caregiver for eight years who was like a sister. Veleda’s siblings preceded her in death including; Charlene Kucela, Garland “Dale” Newland and Roy G. Newland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, at the Palmer Funeral Home, North Liberty Chapel. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services.
