May 23, 1922 - Nov. 12, 2015
SOUTH BEND - Joseph A. Myszak, 93, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, November 12th, in his home with his family by his bedside. He was born on May 23, 1922, in South Bend, IN, to the late Joseph and Estella (Talentowski) Myszak. He was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area. He retired from Bendix Corp. after 36 years of service as an Inspector in the Aircraft Division. Little Joe also worked for Martin's Supermarket on Western Avenue in South Bend for 13 years. On October 25, 1947, in South Bend, IN, he married the love of his life, Dolores E. Konkol, who preceded him in death on May 8, 2001. Joe is survived by two daughters, Christine M. Clark and Sandi K. (Paul) Widawski, both of South Bend; a son, Thomas S. (Rachell) Myszak of South Bend; a brother, John (Pauline) Myszak of South Bend; six grandchildren, Sheila Jennings, Stacey Page, Lisa Clark, Sara (Keith) Szyniszewski, Aaron Myszak & Apryl (Josh) Benjamin; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen A. Myszak, on September 29, 2001, and three brothers, Ralph, William and George Myszak. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 357, the Elkhart Moose Lodge and St. Patrick Catholic Church. He could always be found planting more flowers in his beautiful gardens, shuffling on the dance floor, or out on the boat reeling in the big ones. No one was a stranger to him for long. Once you met him, you were drawn in by his big smile, life stories, and he always had a joke. He always told everyone he was so blessed, but truly we were all blessed to have had him in our lives. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice, especially his nurse, Tracy. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, November 16th, at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home "Southwest Chapel," located at State Rd. 23/W. Ireland Rd., South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Nov. 17th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor St., South Bend, IN, with Fr. Cyril Fernandes officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. The family request memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor St., South Bend, IN 46601. Condolences may be expressed online through our website: www.hanleyandsonsfuneralhomes.com. The HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Myszak family. Published in South Bend Tribune on Nov. 15, 2015
