OSCEOLA - Mary M. Bates, 89, residing in Osceola, passed away at 7:00 AM Sunday, November 30, 2014 at her home. Mary was born on March 21, 1925 in South Bend to the late Benjamin and Edna (Butler) Wroblewski, and has been a lifelong resident of this area, attending John Adams High School. In July of 1949 in South Bend, Mary was united in marriage to Eugene Bates, who preceded her in death in March of 1974. Mary was a wonderful homemaker and worked at the former GL Perry for several years. Mary is survived by her daughter, Linda J. (Joseph) Ward of Osceola; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephew, Philip (Cathy) Wenger of Loveland, OH; great-nieces, Ashley Wenger and Elyse Pyle; and sister, Joan Adams of Granger. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Edna Wroblewski; husband, Eugene Bates; and her brother, Benjamin Wroblewski. Private graveside services will be held at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 826 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614. Palmer Funeral Home River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
