Thomas Wayne Stemn, 87, of South Bend, Indiana passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. Thomas was born July 17, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Nicholas and Emily Stemn who preceded him in death. Thomas proudly served his country during WWII in the Army earning several military medals. On December 27, 1963, Thomas married Teresa Covarrubias who survives. Thomas was emloyed by Studebaker Corporation in South Bend, Indiana and later worked as a machinist for nearly 30 years at Adams & Westlake in Elkhart, Indiana. He was a 65 year member of South Bend American Legion Post 357. Thomas is also survived by his children, Fr. Paul Gerard Stemn of Winnetka, Illinois, Joseph (Lacy) Gerard Stemn of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Thomas (Elizabeth) Christopher Stemn of Blaine, Minnesota; two grandchildren Gavin T. Stemn and Sofia E. Stemn; and brothers, Eugene (Victoria) D. Stemn of South Bend, Indiana, and James (Lillian) D. Stemn of California. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, Indiana, where family and friends visited one hour prior to the Mass. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana with Military Honors.
