SOUTH BEND - John Leader, 85, passed away on July 1st in Jackson, TN. Funeral Services for Mr. Leader will be held on Monday, July 5th, at 12 noon in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery. Mr. Leader graduated from Riley High School in South Bend in 1942 where he lettered in football and track. He served with the 8th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps in England during World War II and in occupied Germany after the war. Upon his return from military service John entered Murray State Teachers College and graduated in 1951 with a BS degree majoring in education and history. Mr. Leader retired after 22 years with the South Bend Police Department (Indiana) at the rank of captain. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Leader, on August 17, 1998. Mr. Leader is survived by five children, Pam Barber, South Bend, Kim Horn (Wil), Jackson, TN, Beth Kaehr, Granger, Robert (Kenna) Leader, Jackson, TN, Kelli Bryan (Jim) Jackson, TN; 10 grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation with the Leader family will be on Monday, July 5th, from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. in the George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel.
