[N16650] Angela “Lina” Stanisci
Oct. 17, 1929 - April 27, 2017
MISHAWAKA - Lina passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Lina was born on October 17, 1929 in Conversano, Italy to the late Vincenzo and Angela Sibilano. On August 10, 1953 she married Gaetano (Nino) Stanisci who preceded her in death on December 13, 1979. In July of 1968, she and her husband along with their three children immigrated from their hometown of Conversano, Italy to Mishawaka, Indiana to pursue the American Dream. Lina started her life in America as a seamstress at Gilbert's and then followed her love of cooking at the old Geno's restaurant on Spring Street in Mishawaka. Her passion in life included cooking, especially making her homemade tomato sauce from her 100 homegrown Roma tomato plants. She also loved to knit and crochet beautiful blankets. Lina lived a faith-filled life praying the Rosary daily. She was a dedicated parishioner at St. Bavo Catholic Church and never missed a Mass. Her favorite time of year was at Christmas when she would prepare traditional Italian pastries to share with friends and family and cherishing weekly, Sunday Spaghetti dinners with her family. Above all else, she devoted herself to her family. Lina has two sisters and a brother residing in Conversano, Italy along with many nieces and nephews living in both Italy and the United States. She is survived by her three children, Nietta (Don) Wright, Angela (David) Layman, and Giovanni Stanisci. She will always be lovingly known as Nonna to her grandchildren, Gianfranco (Angela) Wright, Gianna (Jason) Pociask, Gabriella (Cameron) Byall, Matthew Layman, Annalisa Layman, Gaetano Stanisci, Giovanni Stanisci, Alexandra (Scott) Kutz, and Luke Stanisci. Her three great-grandchildren, Luca and Enzo Wright and Grace Byall will forever know and recite the Italian nursery rhymes that she sang to them. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 2 from 3 to 7 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m., in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, May 3 at 10 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.Memorial contributions in memory of Lina may be made to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 West 7th St., Mishawaka, IN.
