Samuel L. Harman, 75, of Weaver Road, Niles, Mich., passed away at 9:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 13, 1928, in South Bend, Ind., to Ira and Ledema (Harman) Spurlock, who preceded him in death. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Samuel and Ellen Harman, who are deceased. A son, Jeffrey Harman, passed away on March 13, 2003.

On April 30, 1949, in St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Church, he married Betty Lou Piasecki. Samuel is survived by his wife, Betty Lou; a son, Dan (Janice) Harman of South Bend; a daughter-in-law, Jane Harman of Lakeville, Ind.; grandchildren, Johanna (Scott) Kelsey, Joshua Harman, Julianna Harman, Adam (Sarah) Harman and Amy Harman; great-grandchildren, Brady Harman, Fletcher Kelsey, Sophia and Theoden Archambault, Alison Harman and Maxwell Kelsey; and by half sisters, Carol Vandermark, Sue Kay Gross and Regina Roberts, all of Rochester, Ind.

Samuel retired in 1982 from Bendix where he worked in fuel controls. He graduated from Riley High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Sam loved hunting, fishing and collecting model trains, as well as spending time at Crooked Lake in Delton, Mich., with his family each summer.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 11 to noon on Monday, Feb. 2, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Funeral services will be at noon on Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
