Nov. 27, 1927 - Nov. 17, 2012 SOUTH BEND - Bernard E. "Benny" Kowalski, 84, passed away at 2:25 pm Saturday, November 17, 2012, in the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center. Benny was born November 27, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Anna (Grabowski) Kowalski. Benny was also preceded in death by his siblings, Irene Reed, Betty, Frances, Stanley, Ervin, John, Frank and Harry Kowalski; and nephews, John Kowalski and Walter Brock. Survivors for Benny include his sister, Dorothy Weller of South Bend, and many nieces and nephews. Benny served his country in the United States Army. He retired from White Farm Equipment after years of service, and was employed with AM General and Goodwill; he was a money counter at St. Monica's Catholic Church. Benny was an avid Notre Dame and Cubs fan, enjoyed playing cards, enjoyed traveling, and most of all loved his cars. Visitation for Benny will be 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm today, November 20, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 21, 2012, in St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
