SOUTH BEND - Anthony "Tony" Rulli, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Cardinal Nursing Home, South Bend, at the age of 79. He was born July 14, 1929 in South Bend, the son of Vito & Theresa (Larosa) Rulli, and has remained a lifelong resident of this community. Tony was a barber at Vito's Barber Shop on Lincolnway West in South Bend for more than sixty years. He began cutting hair at the age of 12, at his father's shop, which opened in 1926. He received his training in Chicago, and during that time, even became an instructor at the barber school he was attending. Vito's was a popular gathering place for many Notre Dame students, athletes, police and firemen. Tony loved his work, and all those who came to see him everyday. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the former Moose Lodge #58. On November 21, 1953 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Georgianne Hazinski. To this union, two children were born. Tony is survived by his daughter, Michele Rulli-Gates of South Bend, his son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Vito & Amy Rulli of Lakeville, and seven grandchildren, Jamie Beechler, Ramundo Gomez, Cari (Chris) Gomez, Stephen (Christy) Rulli, Daniel Rulli, Micah Rulli, and Allison Rulli. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Nathan, and Gavin Rulli, Joseph, Brandis, Cailieanne, and Samantha Werner. Two brothers, Felix (Catherine) Rulli of South Bend, and James Rulli of Columbus, OH, survive Tony as well. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Vito Rulli will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel.
