Obituary: Alfons DeVreese
Nov. 26, 1907 - March 18, 2007
MISHAWAKA - Alfons DeVreese, "The Energizer Bunny," 99, of The Caring Junction, Mishawaka, passed away Sunday, March 18, in the Caring Junction. He was born November 27, 1907, in Belgium, to Edmund and Bertha (Criel) DeVreese. On April 1, 1945, in South Bend, he married Berneice Coe, who died in 2003. Surviving him are his daughter, Linda (Norm) Beerhorst of Osceola; grandchildren, Jodie (Aaron) Stults of Fishers, IN, Jason (Katrina) Lopez of Granger and Joshua Lopez of Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, Merritt, Ryder and Truman, all of Fishers; and a sister. Alfons came to this country in 1920 and settled in River Park on 34th Street. In the early 1950s he and his wife of 58 years, Berneice, moved to Granger to live in a home that he and his father had built. He was an avid reader, a world traveler, gardener, bee keeper, and in later years a mall walker. He retired from South Bend Lathe Works in 1972 after many years service. He loved chocolate, cookies and the occasional beer. His diet was not a factor in his longevity. Special thanks to Risa, Kim and Missy of Caring Junction, Joanne and Mary of Southern Care Hospice, and Dr. Oppman of Granger Family Medicine for their compassion, caring and love the last days of his life. There will be no services or visitation. The Welsheimer Family Funeral Home assisted the family with their arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice. E-mail condolences may be left at welshfh@yahoo.com
Spouse: Bernice DeVreese (1912 - 2003)*
