Buc©Onskas - "This is a popular surname in Lithuania - 188 of them living there. Buc©Onskas has Polish roots from the surnames Bucinski or Buczynski. All of these names come from the name root Bucz- from "buzec", meaning to hum, drone, buzz, or from "buk" a beech tree. A third possibility is from Buczacz, a Galician powiat seat, now in the Ukraine. In Polish the suffixes used frequently to indicate possessions are -ow- and -in-. These suffixes show up frequently in place names derived from personal names, and are the ones most common in Polish surnames, especially with -ski tacked on. [Hoffman, op. cit., 1997]. Given that explanation, it looks like Buc©Onskas derived from Buczacz - a place name."
