Leopold was born in 1871 in Pamhagen, Burgenland, Austria as the son of Ignatius Strantz and Julianna Mullner (of Pamhagen, Burgenland, Austria). On May 28, 1901 Leopold married Elizabeth Tschida in South Bend, Indiana. Elizabeth is the daughter to George Tschida and Theresa Luttmannsberger.
