SOUTH BEND - Stella Kaniewski, 92, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2009. She was born on March 26, 1917, to Walter and Blanche (Stankiewicz) Arendt and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Kaniewski retired in 1982 after 29 years of employment in food service with the South Bend Community School Corporation. She was previously employed with Wilson Brothers. On September 11, 1937, as Stella Arendt she married Bill Kaniewski, whom she met while working at Wilson Brothers. Bill preceded her in death on September 7, 2000. Surviving is her daughter, Sandra (Frank) Martinez of South Bend; son-in-law, Michael Coplen of South Bend; six grandchildren, Tamara Beiter, Todd Piech, Stephanie (Shaun) Daugherty, Jody (Sonya) Martinez, Joe (Donna) Martinez, Connie Martinez; and ten great-grand children. Stella was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Coplen on June 28, 2008; brothers, Raymond, Edward and Ervin Arendt; and her grandson-in-law, Jim Beiter on August 29, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. in St. Adalbert Catholic Church in South Bend, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call, Monday, November 23, 2009, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Mrs. Kaniewski was a member of St. Adalbert Parish, Harvest House, and Bowlers Country Club.
