EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- Ralph B. Starczewski, 78, of Edwardsburg, passed on Monday (Aug. 9, 2010) at 7:05 p.m. while a patient at Cass County Medical Care Facility.

He was born Feb. 3, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Walter and Anna (Lipinski) Starczewski.

Ralph moved to the Edwardsburg area 32 years ago from Chicago. During his life, he drove a truck, being home on weekends. When he moved to Michiana, he worked for the University of Notre Dame in the power plant and laundry. Ralph and his late wife, Evelyn, were co-owners of the Black Pine Nursery in the Edwardsburg area, which they enjoyed operating many years.

Ralph was married Feb. 9, 1952, in Chicago, to Evelyn Besusparis, who passed Jan. 8, 2007.

Surviving are two daughters, Catherine M. (Bruce) Hardin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lisa M. (Bradley) Stienbarger of Cassopolis. There are three loving grandchildren and four beloved great-grandchildren. He has one sister surviving, MaryAnn (Eugene G.) Dobransky of Edwardsburg. Those family members who have passed, beside his wife, Evelyn, are his parents; one brother, Welsey Starczewski; and one sister, Dolores Paskewicz.

Friends and family are invited to gather at Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main St., (U.S. 12) in Edwardsburg, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 U.S. 12, Edwardsburg. Officiating will be Father Joe McCormick, pastor. Burial will be in Adamsville Cemetery.

Ralph was a veteran of the Korean War in the U.S. Army.

Memorials may be given in the form of Masses at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
