James Emil Horvath, 51, of Fort Wayne (formerly of South Bend) passed away suddenly on Thursday January 26, 2023 in Fort Wayne. James was born on August 22, 1971 in South Bend to Irene Janette (Smith) Horvath-McPherson and Emil Horvath. James was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local No. 645, and worked in the construction industry for many years. He served our country in the Indiana National Guard. James is survived by his mother, Irene Janette Horvath-McPherson, his sisters; Kathleen Horvath and Maryann Kniffen, his brothers; Patrick Horvath, Francis Horvath, Thomas Horvath, John Horvath, and Matthew Horvath. Many nieces and nephews and friends also survive. James was preceded in death by his father; Emil Horvath, his stepfather Alexander McPherson, and his brother Joseph Horvath. Thursday February 2, 2023 is a visitation viewing from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. for friends and family to gather, at the Guisinger Chapel, Palmer Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan St. in South Bend. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday February 3, 2023 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 63568 US 31 S (IN-931), South Bend (near Lakeville) where James was Baptized. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until Mass. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, on the premises of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and a reception at the church hall will follow after the burial.
