Hyde Park - Mary E. Bagiackas, 87, a fifty three year Hyde Park resident and previously of Philadelphia, Penn., died Friday, January 2, 2009 at home. Mrs. Bagiackas was a homemaker. A master quilter, she was a founding member of the Hyde Park Library Quilting Guild, and often contributed Christmas crafts to the Vanderbilt Tree. Mary was a fifty three year communicant of Regina Coeli Church in Hyde Park, where she was a former member of the Altar Rosary Society, and founder of the church's senior citizen's group. She also participated weekly in Eucharistic Adoration, and was active in the church's school many years ago, along with her children. Born in Philadelphia on February 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Martha Coady McCann. She was a proud graduate of the West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School. On November 10, 1945 in Philadelphia, she married Joseph J. Bagiackas. He predeceased her on February 23, 1982. She is survived by six children, Maryellen Rodgers and husband, Michael, of Fairfax, VA, Susan Cybulski and husband, Walter, of Olney, MD, Joseph Bagiackas and wife, Mary, of South Bend, IN, Martha Kennedy and husband, John, of Hyde Park, Christina Oleksak and husband, James, of South Bend, IN, and Peter Bagiackas and wife, Margaret, of South Bend, IN; twenty four grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister and brother, Helen and John McCann, both of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Durinzi; and a brother, Francis McCann. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Pm, Monday, January 5, 2009 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James A. Garisto at 10 am, Tuesday, January 6th at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie.
