Vada N. Sisco of New Carlisle passed away on Thursday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on Jan. 13, 1920, in Palatka, Arkansas, to Savannah (Woolard) and Charles Lilly. The eldest of six children, she couldn't recall a time when she didn't cook and clean. As a child she picked cotton in the fields. She sewed her own clothes out of feed sacks. On Jan. 18, 1936, in Naylor, Mo., Vada and Alvin Lee Sisco Sr. were married. She was baptized on the first of February 1955 at Suburban Gardens Church of Christ along with her husband and daughter. They have lived in New Carlisle since 1951. She was a longtime member of the Westside Church of Christ in South Bend. Vada was an old-fashioned, full-time-plus homemaker. After her four children were grown she learned to drive. For a few years she worked at Haven Hubbard Home as a seamstress. She cherished her family, church and friends. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Vada was also a "great" grandmother. She loved preparing for the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter. She is survived by her sons, Alvin (Carol) Sisco Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., Harold (Ruth) Sisco of New Carlisle, Charles (Rosella) Sisco of South Bend; and a daughter, Beatrice Wilson of South Bend; grandchildren, Tamara Bettinger of Phoenix, Ariz., Karen (Joseph) Treesh of Mill Creek, Doug (Julie) Sisco of South Bend, Anna (Tim) Holdread of Elkhart, Shannon (Scott) Kelly of New Carlisle, Don Burns and Jeanne Woodinner, both of Niles, Mich., and 11 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Maggie Fallin of Jackson, Mo., and Frances Sparks of Granite City, Ill.; and brothers, Charles (Delores) Lilly of Perryville, Mo., and William (Marvelle) Lilly of Love Park, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 14, 1982. Also a granddaughter, Marsha Spicer; brother, John Lilly; and great-grandson, Alexander Spicer.
