MISHAWAKA - Charles Moon, 97, passed away at Elkhart Hospice House in Elkhart Tuesday morning. He was born March 29, 1919, to Charles and Elgie (Ipes) Moon in Mishawaka. On January 19, 1944, Charles married the love of his life, Lois Culp. Together they would raise four children. After Charles finished his education, he became a farmer for a short time before going into the U.S. Army and serving during WW II on the state side. After his discharge in the service, he came back to Indiana to farm again this time with his father-in-law. He worked at Wheelabrator-Fry foundry for many years before retiring. Charles had been an active member in The Cedar Road Missionary Church; his grandson Adam took him to church every Sunday and afterwards they would go to a restaurant for lunch. He taught Sunday school and worked on many projects with the church. Charles was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed gardening. His greatest love of all was his children and grandchildren. He is survived by sons, Ronald and Charles Moon, daughter, Alta (David) Zobrosley, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, brothers, Bill (Marilynn) Moon, Don (Emma) Moon, and a sister, Thelma Frettinger. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; daughter, Norlynn Moon; brother, Lee (Genieve) Moon; and four sisters, Donnabelle Hoff, Agatha Marsh, Hattie Baldwin and Ethel Mathias. A gathering of friends and family will be Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561, with a funeral service with full Military Honors starting immediately after at 2:00 pm. Reverend Dale Hamrick will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family's preferred memorial may be made to the Cedar Road Missionary Church, 525 N Cedar St., Mishawaka, IN 46545, in Charles' memory.
