Bob was born in South Bend, Indiana, on April 27, 1929, to Achiel R. and Alice (Lips) Cleppe. The youngest of three children, his siblings Yvonne Kaluzny and George Cleppe predeceased him, as did their spouses. Bob served in the military from 1951 to 1953, stationed at Ft. Bob spent his entire career with what was originally The National Bank and Trust Company, which is now Flagstar. He worked exclusively in the area of trusts and estates, and at the time of his retirement was Senior Vice President, Senior Trust Officer, and Director of the bank's Trust Division.
