NEW CARLISLE A New Carlisle man who died in what police called a murder-suicide Tuesday showed up at his estranged wifes house and shot her to death while her children listened, authorities said. Andrew L. Zarobinski, 42, and Michelle M. Zarobinski, 39, were discussing a divorce and had not lived together for a significant time period before he arrived at her home at 713 Thunderbird Drive about 7 a.m., the St. Joseph County prosecutors office said in a statement. Andrew Zarobinski went into Michelle Zarobinskis bedroom and ordered her 9-year-old daughter to leave the room, the statement said. The 9-year-old and Michelle Zarobinskis other daughter, 14, both heard the couple arguing, they told investigators. During the argument, Zarobinski pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at his wife, striking her in the head twice, the prosecutors office said. The children then fled downstairs. Zarobinski came downstairs and spoke briefly with the two girls before going back upstairs, at which point the girls heard a single gunshot, the statement said. Police were dispatched to the home about 7:12 a.m. and found the girls standing on the front porch. The prosecutors office has ruled the deaths a murder-suicide and decided to close the case. County Metro Homicide Unit Commander Tim Corbett referred all questions Wednesday to the prosecutors office, which released its statement after questions from The Tribune. New Carlisle Police Chief Jeff Roseboom did not respond to a telephone message seeking comment, but neither New Carlisle nor St. Joseph County police had ever received calls from the home, the prosecutors office said. Andrew Zarobinski worked at New Carlisle-based Cryogenic Transportation Inc. as a truck driver and trainer for the past year and a half, according to his obituary. Before that, he worked as a well driller with Peerless Midwest Inc. in Mishawaka. Michelle Zarobinski was a home mortgage consultant, based in Mishawaka, with Wells Fargo. Andrew and Michelle Zarobinski, both New Prairie High School graduates, were married in Las Vegas in 2006. A memorial visitation for Andrew Zarobinski has been scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. EST Friday at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Arrangements had not been made for Michelle Zarobinski, a family member said Wednesday. Copyright b 2013, South Bend Tribune
