Richard E. A. Atkinson, 91 years old, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend. He was born May 7, 1930 in Burnley, England to the late George and Gertrude (Barrow) Atkinson. Richard was united in marriage to Judithe M. H. Atkinson, who preceded him in death in 2007. Richard and his family moved to the states in 1980 when his company relocated him. He was well educated and loved to read. He especially enjoyed reading his mystery novels. He was also very generous and compassionate. He volunteered much of his time at the St Joseph County Public Library. Richard is survived by his daughter, Helen Atkinson of South Bend. Along with his parents and, Judithe, Richard is preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Atkinson. There will be private services held for the family. Palmer Funeral Homes-Welsheimer North Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Richard to the Alzheimers Association, 225 N.
