OSCEOLA - Nancy A. Konopinski, 65, of Osceola, died Sunday October 2, 2016 at St. Joseph Medical Center. The South Bend native was born July 12, 1951 to Roman & Virginia (Torzewski) Szymczak, who have both preceded her in death. On July 2, 1988, Nancy married James S. Konopinski in South Bend. She was a Librarian with 36 years of employment with PHM School Corp., currently as the Media Specialist at Northpoint Elementary. She was past-president of Educational Services Personnel at PHM. Nancy had a passion for literature and was a skilled storyteller; she just had a special way with words. She had been associated with both St. Monica and also Queen of Peace Catholic Churches. Nancy was devoted to her family and her grandchildren were the light of her life; an avid Notre Dame fan, but always the #1 fan at any of her family's sporting events, she rarely missed a game or an opportunity to watch her children and grandchildren shine. She was known as a superb cook; especially her Polish cabbage, noodles and Thanksgiving stuffing. She enjoyed riding with her husband, and served as past director of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter H. Nancy was a crafty & creative person; she enjoyed sewing & crafts and painting ceramics; she was an expert at sewing clothes and also doll clothes; she made bath robes and pillow cases for her grandchildren; she cross-stitched Santa pictures, made baby blankets and stuffed animals. She also enjoyed collecting angels and she loved flashy jewelry. Nancy is survived by James Konopinski, her husband of 28 years, and their children; Christy (Shane) Betzer of Osceola, Jennifer (Greg) Doms of New Carlisle and step-son, Eric Konopinski of Mishawaka; her grandchildren, Bailey & Briana Betzer, Reese & Brayden Doms, all at home, Micah (Anthony) Jacobs of Osceola and Nate Hizer in California; her brother, Thomas (Linda) Szymczak of Fort Wayne and her sister, Marilyn (Jerry) Walsh of New Whiteland. Funeral Services 10:00 Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. where friends may call for one hour prior to services. Calling also Tuesday from 3-8pm in the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family's preferred memorial is the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, 302 Ridgefield Ct.
